EDS/Maxtor Account, Advanced Systems Engineer About two weeks after I started at Maxtor, the entire IS&T department was "out-sourced" to EDS. Effective 1/1/94 My contract switched to EDS. Joined EDS as a full-time employee effective 7/15/94. This site used HP 3000 ASK ManMan, HP 9000 Aurum, Banyan. The Shipping and RMA systems are "homegrown". The EDS - Maxtor account management objectives involved a great deal of cross-functional team effort. Below are listed some of the projects for which I provided leadership.

Objective: EDS Account Management is paid bonuses depending on the Customer Satisfaction. After the semi-annual Customer Satisfaction Survey, it was decided that EDS needed to improve customer relations. My assignment: Assure customers will get reports 99% of the time.

Problem: Unreliable systems. Up to 30 ABEND's on a typical weekend and another 20 - 30 during the rest of the week.

Solution: Implemented a process of reviewing all ABEND's and correcting the problems with an automated "permanent" solution for each ABEND. When I left EDS, the Maxtor account's total ABEND's were averaging less than one a week. They are now addressing other problems that might effect customer satisfaction.

Objective: Bring new Staff members up to speed as soon as possible. New staff need to support of highly customized ASK ManMan code and Order Management, RMA's, Shipping, Financially and other systems as needed. This site uses FORTRAN, COBOL, Quiz, Quick and View Forms.

Problem: The average programmer takes weeks to learn enough to be able to function independently.

Solution: I wrote a training manual. Every time someone asked me a question that was not already in she manual, I added a paragraph describing the answer. Over the two years I was there, the manual grew to almost 300 pages. In addition I have taught several classes including Version Control, HP IMAGE database, Security / Auditabilty / and Control.

12/93 - 7/96

Supervised the team creating the EDI interface to the existing system, the transaction database and testing of the code. Code written in Quiz, QTP, COBOL and FORTRAN. EDI Transactions implemented: 850 862, 856, 555,810, 820, 830,870
